Continente Cozinha: new restaurants with traditional and cheap food

The chain has opened three restaurants where you can try charcoal grills, wood-oven pizzas, salads or signature dishes.

Next time you go shopping, take the opportunity to order a typical Portuguese meal at the Continente’s new restaurants. The supermarket chain has opened three spaces where it offers fresh meals at reasonable prices.

They are called Cozinha Continente. The first restaurant was opened in Vila Real, the second was opened in Viseu, and more recently, the concept has arrived in Lisbon, in the Telheiras Shopping Center.

“Inspired by old cookbooks and traditions handed down from generation to generation, Continente decided to cook the kitchen, but it’s not just a kitchen. It takes recipes from always and tomorrow, made today with handpicked ingredients by those who have been acquainted with the best producers in Portugal for years.” This is how the brand Describe The novelty implemented it in some supermarkets in the country at the beginning of this year.

The menu is designed to satisfy all customers, including vegetarians. There is pizza made in a wood-fired oven with an artisan recipe, or for those who prefer charcoal grilled dishes. For those who cannot resist traditional Portuguese cuisine, there is always a menu of typical dishes from the country served on a weekly basis.

“They combine classics like duck rice, braised Portuguese style or cod à Zé do Pipo, with alternatives inspired from elsewhere, like fish and shrimp curry or vegetarian chili,” the retailer explains.

Prices are no different than what we are used to in these spaces. Pizzas range from €4.90 to €5.50, grilled dishes can range from €6 to €12.90 with two side dishes of your choice and fish dishes cost €6.90.

The restaurant complements its offering with cafeteria service available throughout the day. There are croissants, bread of God, custard tarts and flavors typical of the regions in which they are present, such as Cristas de Galo, popular in Vila Real or Viriato, a sweet typical of Viseu.
