Health authorities will destroy a batch of Moderna’s vaccine against Covid-19 that was sent to Portugal where “a foreign body in the vials” was detected. The information is provided by Red-hotThe authority that manages medicines and health products, in a statement published today, Sunday.
According to the information note, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) warned member states on Thursday of the discovery of a “quality defect” in batch 000190A of the vaccine, manufactured in the Moderna laboratory in Spain. Infarmed did not specify in the statement which foreign body was found in the vials.
In addition to Portugal, the lottery was also received in Spain, Sweden, Poland and Norway. But, according to Infarmed, the batch was “quickly identified” by Portuguese health authorities and not distributed to any vaccination center in the country. The batch remains in the central warehouse to be destroyed “at the joint and under the responsibility of the manufacturer”.
