Images in the gallery show a surface reference map from NASA and the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) on the left, with two fields of view of the Webb NIRCam instrument superimposed. Webb’s near-infrared images are shown on the right.

The fact that Mars is relatively close to Earth, Makes the planet appear as one of the brightest celestial bodies in the night sky, in terms of visible light and infrared light. This makes it difficult to take pictures, as super telescope instruments have been developed to detect the faint light from distant galaxies.

The space agencies revealed that “special techniques were used to prevent Webb from being immersed in light.”

Pictures captured by NIRCam Shows a region of the eastern hemisphere of Mars, at two different wavelengthsor the colors of infrared light.
