“Even the health indicators of the Portuguese were insulting, that is, the response that the SNS gives, even if it is quite basic, needs to be reinforced and appreciated, and in this sense, once we get the new proposal, hopefully there will be some change, we will definitely fight for this way of strengthening the SNS , even if it is not the only way,” said today the Joint Front Coordinator, Sebastiao Santana.
The union president was speaking at the end of a meeting in Lisbon, in front of the Ministry of Health, where about a hundred workers in the sector demanded more investment for SNS and the strengthening of human resources, with salary and better jobs. professionals.
As for journalists, he defended that “the government has sufficient means to change its proposals,” and therefore the common front of unions for public administration expects changes to the proposed state budget in the field of health.
Sebastião Santana defended the SNS as a “pillar of democracy” in Portugal and that health policies “need substantive change”, and demanded more public investment, first and foremost “to ensure that workers in social networking services do not leave because their jobs undervalue wages”.
He criticizes that there are public funds given to private funds to provide the service that should be provided by social networks, but he refused to talk about “mismanagement”, because he understood that this “takes the government out of responsibility.”
“It’s a political choice that consists of not investing in this public service and that’s what we criticize,” he said.
A meeting had already been scheduled for the twelfth at the Ministry of Health, after the professional bodies and sectoral unions were called today to meet with the minister, a “technical meeting” that the common front guaranteed him to proceed with his preparation. their claims sheets.
“The government called it a technical meeting, let’s see what comes from there. We will definitely sit at the table with the various demands we have for the sectors and keep demanding answers,” he said.
At the meeting, which on World Health Day focused on advocating for the SNS, Isabel Camarinha, Secretary General of CGTP-IN, attended to also demand that the SNS be strengthened, jobs, salaries and defense improved. That this has to happen in a context where all workers in the state are at a loss, with the current scenario of inflation and deteriorating prices, and hence the cost of living.
“This is not a demand today, it is a demand every day, this defense of the SNS, an achievement of the April 25 revolution that we need to ensure its continuation, strengthening and improvement,” Isabel Camarinha told reporters.
