Last year’s Pixel 8 Pro was one of the best experiences I’ve had in mobile, and it felt like a breath of fresh air, especially in the photography space.
Google has always known how to do a lot, almost always with average (or bad) hardware, and despite some compromises (especially in video), the truth is that the top of the range of the search giant has done (and continues to do) wonders in capturing images from the rear unit.
Having said that, in addition to the major improvements to the rear module of the entire Pixel 9 lineup, the fact is that we’ll be getting a massive update on the always-important side of selfies.

The latest spec leak regarding everything Google has in store for its Pixel 9 smartphone lineup has revealed that we’re in for some big surprises when it comes to selfies.
This is especially true on the Pro side! (My Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL).
After all, these models will replace the current 10.5MP 1/3-inch sensor with a more interesting 50MP 1/2.51-inch sensor. So, just looking at the numbers, there’s no denying that we’re seeing a very significant improvement in image quality, especially in conditions where the light is not right.
Yes, it is true that rear sensors are objectively more important in a smartphone. But… how many times have you tried to take a selfie only to find yourself in a world of disappointment?
It’s easy! If Pixel smartphones are good at photography, they should be good all around the photography world.
Despite the fact that Google has always managed to deliver amazing colors and good details, the fact is that images often appear with strange artifacts, especially at night.
Pixel smartphones are starting to position themselves as very high-end phones, and this can only be good news for the Android ecosystem. Samsung and Xiaomi are taking care of it!
