The CPI will focus on unilateral cancellations, i.e. those made by operators without the customer being absent. Clients of plans canceled in this way are mainly seniors and children with autism.

The Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly opened the CPI on Thursday last week. State lawmakers will investigate the denial of treatment to people with disabilities and unilateral cancellation.

The problem also reached the Ministry of Justice, which received 2,050 cancellation complaints in recent days. Given the situation, the 20 health workers who appeared in the complaints were given 10 days to provide explanations.

The sector authorities said, in a statement, that the cancellations have been suspended. FenaSaúde (National Federation for Complementary Health) stated in a press release that its members “decided to suspend any cancellations for beneficiaries undergoing ongoing treatment and to maintain existing group membership plans.”

FenaSaúde stated that it presented the lira with problems affecting the sustainability of health plans. Among them are setting unlimited coverage for treatments, preventing fraud, and passing a law requiring health plans Bearing the costs of treatment outside the ANS checklist (National Complementary Health Agency).

Abramge (Brazilian Association of Health Plans) stated that the cancellation of services for people undergoing treatment for serious illnesses and autism spectrum disorder will be reviewed. New unilateral cancellations for group membership plans have also been suspended, according to an Abramge press release.
