Hundreds of people lined up on Monday at the door of the Algueirão-Mem Martins health center, the country’s largest, to make an appointment.

In the parish of Algueirão Mem Martins, more than 26,000 people still do not have a family doctor and the only opportunity they have to do so occurs at the beginning of each month.. Doors for appointment access opened at 08:00, but there was a waiting list from 06:00.

However, the query is not foolproof, because passwords are limited.

sThe identical case was also verified on the same day, but at the new health center in Agualva, in the city of Agualva-Cacém. The doors to the health center opened at 8:00 am, but by 4:00 pm many people still couldn’t see them or even give them the password.

In both health units, the complaints are the same. They go through a shortage of family doctors, poor organization, and long waiting times, without explanation to the user.

It should be noted that these two health units were built by Sintra Council from scratch, out of a pool of seven in the municipality, representing a significant investment, which in practice did not result in an improvement in health care delivery above all. Because the long-awaited and promised reinforcement of family doctors has not yet been achieved by the central administration.

In this health unit, there are more than 16,000 people without a family doctor.
