Cambridge technology firm completes industry-first challenge across North America, Europe and Africa as businesses explore new approaches to heavy equipment inspections
UK-based technology company Krank has completed what it describes as an industry-first demonstration of remote heavy equipment inspections, using its AI-powered Inspeq platform to oversee inspections across three continents in less than an hour.
The live event, known as “The Triple”, showcased how a single qualified inspector was able to remotely supervise inspections of heavy machinery in North America, Europe and Africa without leaving Krank’s operations centre in Cambridge. Broadcast live on LinkedIn, the demonstration attracted more than 800 industry professionals and highlighted how digital technology could reshape traditional inspection processes for global equipment fleets.

One Inspector Oversees Three Continents From Cambridge
The challenge placed Chris Buehn, Chief Operating Officer of Mevas Inspectors, at the centre of three simultaneous inspection projects conducted thousands of miles apart.
Using Inspeq’s Remote Work Orders capability, Buehn directed inspections taking place at equipment dealer locations in Italy, South Africa and the United States while remaining at Krank’s Cambridge headquarters.
Participating companies included CGT in Italy, BLC Plant in South Africa and Sunstate Equipment in the United States. During the event, local personnel inspected a hydraulic excavator, a CAT 140 11A Motor Grader, and a JLG 450AJ Articulating Boom Lift, while Buehn remotely supervised each assessment through live video collaboration and structured digital workflows.
The demonstration was designed to test whether experienced inspectors could extend their expertise across multiple locations while maintaining the standards expected from conventional on-site inspections.
Industry Faces Growing Demand for Inspection Expertise
Reducing Travel While Maintaining Inspection Quality
Heavy equipment inspections have traditionally required experienced professionals to travel to individual sites, a process that can consume significant time as fleets become increasingly dispersed across international markets.
Mark Turner, Chief Executive Officer of Krank and Inspeq, believes technology offers a practical solution to those challenges.
“Anyone who works in this industry knows how challenging it can be to get experienced inspectors where they’re needed most. Too often, highly skilled professionals spend more time travelling between assets than carrying out inspections, and with a limited number of highly trained inspectors available, making the best use of their time and expertise is more important than ever,” shares Turner.

According to Krank, the platform combines live video collaboration with centralised reporting and structured digital workflows, enabling inspection findings, images and documentation to be compiled throughout the assessment process.

Buehn said the exercise demonstrated that inspection standards could be maintained while significantly reducing the need for travel.
“For me, the key point was that the quality of the inspection did not change. I was still relying on my experience, following the same approach and making the same professional assessments I would during a traditional site visit.
“What Inspeq changed was the way that expertise could be delivered. I was able to support teams around the world from one place while still capturing the information needed to complete a full and thorough inspection. The platform brought the findings, images and documentation together as we worked, so by the time the inspection was complete, the final report was already populated, which saved additional time and removed the need for further administrative steps after the inspection.”
