Contrary to what it may seem, drying your hair outdoors and not using a hair dryer is not the best way to keep your hair healthy and silky. In fact, it may have more disadvantages than advantages.

On your Instagram page Clara Fernandez, pharmacist and hair care specialistExplains why leaving the house with wet hair and letting it air dry causes water stress, which is the tension that occurs in the hair when there is excess moisture.

“If hair is left to dry outdoors, excess water enters the hair and remains within the fibre, causing contraction and relaxation movements that result in the cuticles rising and rubbing against the fiber and within the hair.” He explains. “This makes dandruff more vulnerable and makes hair easier to break, damage, and frizz.”

According to Clara Fernandez, drying your hair with the help of a hair dryer allows water trapped in the fibers to escape more easily and does not cause tension, which can make hair frizzy or weaken it.

However, there are some precautions when using the dryer that you should take into consideration. According to the expert, you should use the dryer at a medium temperature, about 10 to 15 cm away from the hair, and to avoid exhausting the water, the ideal situation is to dry your hair to get rid of excess moisture.

If you have curly hair, you should use a diffuser at a low speed to avoid the frizz effect, and avoid wetting your hair several times a day to revive your curls. The only thing you will achieve is increased levels of water stress, which can weaken your hair.
