iOS 17 includes some big improvements to Visual Look Up, or in Portuguese, Visual Search. The job of this feature is to identify objects in photos taken by the user and show more information about those same objects. Although it has already appeared on iOS 15, this feature is not yet available in Portugal. As part of iOS 17, Visual Search has been expanded to identify some of the most common icons on your car’s dashboard.

Smartphones are becoming increasingly useful, smarter and with more features that can be very useful in small and large situations that we face in our daily lives. With an iPhone in our hand, we can easily translate displayed text in a language we don't know, we can remove text from within an image, and we can even point the device and learn more details about the target of our camera.

We can easily identify objects, animals, plants, people and even now the warning signs that can appear on the quarter of our vehicle.

iOS 17 may tell you more about your car's warning lights

on the website of preview iOS 17 release, Apple brings some improvements to Visual Look Up coming this year:

  • Find recipes for similar dishes from one photo;
  • Find out more about highlighting. When you crop an object from an image, you can search for related information from a list;
  • Visual search in videos. Pause the video at any time and press the info button to search for an object.

However, what Apple didn't mention is the Expand visual search to identify vehicle symbols Thanks to iOS 17.

This change was spotted by users at redditearlier this month.

Some people, who have accessed and tested this functionality, have mentioned that a really impressive result is obtained. Visual search can locate multiple symbols and icons in the same image. If the user points the iPhone, points their quad and takes a picture, the visual search will identify each traffic light and indicate what it means when that signal is active on the panel.

After selecting a visual search for icons in an image, iOS 17 provides quick links to learn more about each icon in Safari. Directly in the Photos application, the name of the icon and a brief description of its meaning are displayed.

The Auto Icons feature in iOS 17 is able to recognize a wide range of icons. This includes warning lights on the dashboard, climate control icons, headlight options, defrost and much more.

To access the visual search, use the Photos app on your iPhone and tap on a photo. If iOS 17 has specified icons, you will see a special icon in the bottom toolbar. In the case of vehicle icons, this icon will look like a steering wheel. You can also click the "i" icon if the steering wheel icon does not appear automatically.

This is a very useful addition for iOS 17 users, especially for people who are new to driving and don't have much experience.

iOS 17 is currently in its second developer beta, with a public beta release in July. iOS 17 will be released to everyone in September.
