Have you heard the interview with Portuguese comedian Nacia Marrero? In the film Humor À Primeira Vista, with Gustavo Carvalho, he talks about his career in the USA, recalls the praise he received from Eddie Murphy and reveals a possible deal with Netflix
Have you ever met a comedian in Los Angeles and didn’t know how to react?
I met Eddie Murphy. It was at a friends place, I was with a mutual friend, and I didn’t even have the courage to ask for a picture, I didn’t want to be disrespectful. He said I was funny, and I was very happy. It was a moment I was just enjoying. I was among friends at Eddie Murphy’s house. In a beautiful house, with delicious food.

What are the goals for the coming period?
I’m trying to get more acting roles, so I can participate more in this environment. I’m currently writing a screenplay with some amazing friends of mine that have been nominated for an Academy Award.
who are they?
Lucas brothers. We’re writing a script about my life, from being born and raised in Portugal to my journey in Los Angeles and being a comedian. I think it would be cool to see the mix of Portuguese and American culture. The goal is to be a sitcom.
Does the comedy talk about these experiences?
My comedy is about being an immigrant, being divorced, being in an abusive relationship, and how I was able to get out. About being Portuguese and how I grew up with my mother, the typical Portuguese woman and my father, the typical Portuguese man. this is my story. But when I came to Portugal, I no longer sympathized with some things and felt sad. I would like to be able to talk about certain topics, but I think Portuguese people are not used to seeing a woman like me doing comedy. They think I have an idea that I’m good because I have red lips, wear a tight suit and tell jokes. I’m not a hipster, I like to wear earrings, be feminine, and be strong. I am a strong Portuguese woman, but people often feel intimidated by that, even in Portugal. In the States, it’s funny, because I’m small and I have an accent: “Look at this girl who’s full of genius, she’s cute.” Here they think I have the idea that I’m good.
After participating in the Netflix Comedy Festival, do you think there is a possibility of doing more projects with Netflix in the near future?
I got invited to a big comedy show on Netflix. We are negotiating, let’s see, I don’t know what will happen.
