Experts say mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia bacteria reduce the insect's ability to transmit the disease filming:

With 280 cases of dengue and seven confirmed cases of chikungunya, the city of Jaboticatobas, in the Belo Horizonte metropolitan region, declared a state of emergency over both diseases. The decree was signed by City Mayor Inmar Adriano Márquez on Monday (February 19).

To justify the decree, the mayor said that the city had higher than expected cases of both diseases and that serious cases of dengue caused an increase in requests for treatment in the city. The decree will also help in preparing and using the health network.

The state of emergency is in effect for 60 days, but can be extended if necessary. The city council will be able to combat risks or deploy hotspots to eliminate risks and threats to public health. The municipal government interprets this article as authorizing the forcible entry of public health personnel into vacant, unoccupied or abandoned public or private property, even without permission from the owners, while also permitting entry in cases of refusal by the owners.

In case of refusal, the decree provides for the preparation of a notice of violation, which will serve as a basis for the city municipality to obtain legal and appropriate measures for forced entry. Staff will be uniformed and identified.

This measure provides for the adoption of health surveillance measures, in addition to intensifying prevention, monitoring, vector control and response measures to combat the disease. The decree also allows direct contracting of inputs.
