With the victory over Recopa Sudamericana last Wednesday (02), striker Gabriel Veron became the youngest player to lift five cups in Palmeiras history. So far, the academy’s descendants have won the Campeonato Paulista (2020), the Brazilian Cup (2020), two Libertadores (2020 and 2021), and the Recopa (2021).
Gabriel Veron was a surprise to coach Abel Ferreira, as the player started as a key player in the Recopa Final against Atletico, played through the first 45 minutes and ended up entering Wesley.
One of the youngest players on the list, Veron rose to pro level at the end of the 2019 season, aged just 17. Since then, he has played 69 matches for Palmeiras, scoring 12 goals and contributing eight assists. Currently, Veron ranks 17th on the list of the world’s biggest promises, according to UK magazine Fourfourtwo.
Veron highlighted the importance of winning titles always and expressed his happiness with the coach’s confidence in a decisive match.
Winning titles is always important, and I am happy to start as a player in such an important match. “I keep working hard and with full focus on this year’s sequence, this is just the beginning of the season and we know we need to do everything we can to honor this jersey and gain space in the Abel team,” said the academy daughter.
Palmeiras turns his attention back to Campeonato Paulista. Verdau’s next match will be on Sunday (06), against Guarani, at 16:00 (Brasilia), at Allianz Parque. The match is valid for the tenth round of the state championship.
