Football team names are among the 200 most common passwords in the world used by Internet users for various online services, according to a survey conducted for the fifth year in a row by NordPass, the developer of a digital access code manager for businesses and consumers.
Of the 35 countries surveyed, the UK has the highest number of internet users using passion for a club or football-related terms to use as a password. In the top twenty are: Liverpool (4th), Arsenal (6th), Chelsea (10th), Football Club (12th), Rangers (Scotland, 20th).
In Portugal, research (and full verification) points to a curious fact, where the name Benfica appears twice among the 20 most used passwords: benfica (8th) and benfica91 (20th).
Despite being a football country, sports-related topics in Brazil are not among the most popular passwords. The most commonly used are “admin” and “123456”, with Brazilians preferring numeric sequences, reflecting a global trend (about a third – 31% – of the world’s most common passwords consist of combinations of numbers).
