FIFA confirms a new confrontation between Brazil and Argentina in the qualifiers – 05/09/2022

Madrid, May 9 (EFE). FIFA’s Appeals Committee confirmed on Monday that Brazil and Argentina will have to play a new World Cup qualifier to make up for the match that was suspended on September 5, 2021, within a few minutes of the game being played at the Arena Corinthians that became known as the “Anvisa Classic”.

The measure endorsed the decision of the entity’s disciplinary committee and partially rejected appeals from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the Argentine Football Association (AFA). The location of the new match, scheduled for September 22, has not been determined.

FIFA retained a fine of 50,000 Swiss francs (256 thousand Brazilian reais) imposed on the two confederations due to the suspension, but reduced the fine imposed on the Brazilian Confederation for breaching public order and security to 250,000 francs (1.2 million Brazilian reais).
