Cameron said after a meeting with his Kosovar counterpart, Donika Kervalla-Schwarz, that we live in a “world of great insecurity and instability, a world of great conflict”.

“This is a time for countries like the UK to support our friends and work closely with our important allies,” he said.

Cameron championed the importance of investing in areas “that have been unstable but are now showing good signs of stability and progress”, citing the importance of the UK's stability in the Western Balkans.

It is for this reason that the British government will invest 45 million pounds (52 million euros at current exchange rates) in Kosovo this year, he said.

The former Conservative prime minister visited the 4,500-strong British soldiers who are part of the NATO-led peacekeeping force (KFOR).

British forces at KFOR were increased from 400 to 600 soldiers following an attack on Kosovar police by Serbian paramilitary commandos in late September 2023, which again raised tensions.
