Scientifically named C/2021 A1, Comita Leonard – The brightest comet crosses the world’s sky in 2021 – seen next to Christ the Redeemer this week. Recorded by Photographer Marcello Cavalcanti, that took hold of the phenomenon.
With an estimated brightness of 2.5, Leonard was discovered in 2021 by astronomer Gregory J. Leonard and will be at its closest point to Earth on January 3, 2022, according to NASA. After the summit, Leonard will slowly drift away and will only be seen in the sky from Earth 80,000 years from now.
