Over the past seven decades, China-UK cooperation has brought enormous opportunities for development to both sides, and the cooperation is mutually beneficial, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng said on Thursday.
Attending the 70th anniversary of the China-UK trade “Icebreaking Mission”, Han read a congratulatory letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping on the occasion.
Han said that President Xi sending a special congratulatory letter shows the high importance he attaches to the event.
He said that 70 years ago, British businessmen represented by Jack Perry broke the West’s trade ice with China and opened the door to China-UK cooperation.
Over the years, the 48 Group Club and the China-Britain Business Council have made great contributions to the development of China-UK friendship and the promotion of economic, trade and people-to-people exchanges between the two sides, he said.
Han expressed hope that people from all walks of life in China and Britain will continue to maintain an ice-breaking attitude and promote China-UK friendly cooperation to achieve new success, especially in the areas of economy and trade.
About 100 delegates from the Chinese and British business communities attended the event.
