The Aedes aegypti mosquito infection rate in Capivari de Baixo remains low. This result came from a survey of the Rapid Infection Index of the Government of Santa Catarina, which was conducted between December 31, 2023 and January 15, 2024.

According to the Minister of Health, Plinio Vieira, there was an increase in Aedes aegypti outbreaks last year compared to previous years. Six outbreaks of the disease were identified during the 12 months, and all were controlled and eliminated. “Most of them were found during times of low temperatures, which raises concerns. With this increase in outbreaks, we also had a high demand for patients suspected of being infected with the disease. Of these, only three were infected with the virus, but they did not develop the disease in our municipality.” “.

He points out that the team of endemic disease control agents continues daily inspections of businesses and homes through complaints and other places for prevention and searching for larvae to combat dengue fever in the municipality. “With warm days, the appearance of larvae in 2024 gradually increases, and they are collected and analyzed in our entomology laboratory, making the return faster and more flexible for the positive or negative result of the eradication and control of Aedes aegypti,” details.

In Santa Catarina, from December 31, 2023 to January 15, 2024, 2,884 Aedes aegypti mosquito outbreaks were identified in 146 municipalities of the state. Of the 295 people from Santa Catarina, 154 are considered to be infected with the vector. The definition of infection is based on the spread and persistence of the outbreak.

3,084 dengue notifications were recorded. Of these cases, 2052 cases were considered probable and 1032 cases were ignored. Regarding the circulating serotypes, DENV1 and DENV2 were identified. DENV1 is dominant. The number of municipalities that recorded possible cases of dengue fever reached 79 municipalities.
There have been 19 notifications of chikungunya in Santa Catarina. Of these cases, 17 were considered probable and 2 were ignored. There has been notification of Zika in the state and the case is still under investigation.

How to prevent yourself:

  • Remove water from plant pots.
  • Place empty bottles upside down;

  • Keep yards well clean, eliminating containers that can accumulate water, such as bottle caps, leaves, and plastic bags;
  • Clean the edges of containers (water containers, animal food, plant pots, barrels, water tanks) well and always keep them clean.
