bye twitter? Instagram has launched an alternative social network for “text chats”
He promises to be a nuisance to Elon Musk. Users are unhappy with the restrictions on the number of tweets they can read.
It looks like Twitter, with only one difference. Threads is the new social network to be produced by Meta, the company responsible for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. It is very similar to the Bluebird Social Network and is supposedly intended to be truly alternative.
The launch of this social network has not been directly confirmed by Meta. instead of, Back This Tuesday in the Apple App Store where it was revealed It will be available from July 6, Thursday. In addition to being free, this social network is directly related to Instagram, as its official name is “Thread, the Instagram app”.
The released images of what this application will look like indicate that it will be possible to use an Instagram account to log in to threads and follow the same users of that social network. In addition, it appears to have the same features as Twitter, such as sharing content, giving likes, and deciding who can reply to posts.
Being a “text chat” app, Threads will be a space “where different communities come together to discuss everything from what matters now to what’s trending tomorrow.”“, it reads on that page. “Whatever you’re interested in, follow and connect with your favorite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following to share your thoughts, opinions, and creativity with the world.”
The idea of Mark Zuckerberg meta to compete with Twitter is not new. Already in June it was reported that the news was coming. However, the release of the threads may have been introduced due to dissatisfaction among Twitter users. Since it was bought by Elon Musk, the social network has undergone several poorly received changes. The most recent was to place limits on the number of posts each user could read.
The owner of the social network reports that verified accounts can read up to six thousand posts per day, while unverified accounts – that is, those that do not pay for a blue stamp – are entitled to read only 600. Newly created unverified accounts can only interact with 300 posts per day, and posts can no longer be viewed on Twitter without linking to an account. The change has been justified by Elon Musk as a way to “handle extreme levels of data mining and systems manipulation”.
The change is already underway and some users have started getting warnings that they have exhausted their post reading limit. When that happens, the message “rate limit exceeded” appears and prevents the user from seeing any more tweets for the rest of the day.
If, before, to be a relevant personality, it was enough to have the blue seal (with a verified identity), now any Twitter user can have this distinction: just pay 7.29 euros per month. An authentication token stopped offering a guarantee of authenticity in April, since anyone could pay to get it, according to critics of Musk’s strategy.
Such actions led to countless users abandoning the social network, and predictions made at the end of 2022 were as follows H ewill leave 32 million Twitter users in two years. Many have turned to competing platforms like Mastodon or Bluesky.
The new Meta platform is integrated into ActivityPub, the open-source decentralized protocol for social networking, which means users of the new app can move their accounts and followers to other apps, like the ones mentioned above.
