British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab announced his resignation on Friday after an investigation found evidence of intimidating behavior towards some of his civil servants.

The resignation came a day after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak received the report of an independent investigation conducted by a lawyer over several months.

In a letter of resignation posted on the social network TwitterRaab said he felt “compelled to accept the outcome of the investigation”, but noted that only two of the eight allegations made had been confirmed.

“I also believe that its two adverse outcomes are flawed and set a dangerous precedent for good governance behavior,” he said.

According to the politician, “by setting standards for intimidation [bullying] very low, and this investigation has set a dangerous precedent.”

“It will encourage dishonest complaints against ministers, and it will have a chilling effect on those who carry out reforms on behalf of the government – and ultimately the British people,” he said.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his “great sadness” at the resignation of the “number two” from the government.

Sunak praises the deputy prime minister for making good on his promise to step down if found guilty, but admits there are skepticism about the process.

“It is clear that there were flaws in the long process that negatively affected everyone involved,” he added.

In addition to being second in government, Dominic Raab also holds the position of Minister of Justice, but before that he also held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This is the second executive sacking for bullying since Sunak succeeded Liz Truss six months ago.
