Boris Becker has been released from prison and deported from the UK after eight months of his sentence.
The three-time Wimbledon champion was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison in April for concealing £2.5m of assets and loans to avoid paying debts.
The former world number one commentator was declared bankrupt on 21 June 2017 – owing creditors around £50m – due to an unpaid loan of more than £3m on his Mallorca property.
The 55-year-old German, who has lived in the UK since 2012, was due to serve half of his sentence behind bars, but was released on Thursday morning and deported, according to the Palestinian News Agency.
Sources said the plane was chartered by a friend amid reports he was heading to Germany on a private jet.
And Sky News quoted Becker’s lawyer, Christian Oliver Moser, as saying that the former tennis star “has served his sentence and is not subject to any criminal restrictions in Germany.”
In May, Baker was reported to have been transferred to a lower security prison for foreign offenders awaiting deportation – Category C Huntercombe Prison near Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire – having previously been held at Category B Prison Wandsworth in southwest London.
The six-time Grand Slam winner qualifies for automatic deportation because he is a non-British foreigner who has been imprisoned for more than 12 months.
