President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Thursday, 30th, that the Ministry of Health will decide on January 5 regarding immunization of children aged 5 to 11 against coronavirus, after a discussion that will take place on the fourth day. “I don’t understand this yearning for vaccines,” he said during a live broadcast on social media.

The president of the Planalto Palace has said again that he will not vaccinate his 11-year-old daughter, Laura. “Our daughter has nothing to gain from the vaccine,” he said, after saying First Lady Michelle agreed with his position.

In recent weeks, the government has stirred controversy by trying to make it difficult to vaccinate children. After opening a public consultation to assess whether it would allow children to be immunized against COVID-19 in the country, the Minister of Health, Marcelo Quiroga, said last week that he should order a prescription and sign a liability clause for parents who want to vaccinate children aged 5 to 11.

Following the minister’s words, the Sustainability Network has taken to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to ask the court to compel the Ministry of Health to provide vaccines to children regardless of the prescription.

In today’s live broadcast on social media, Bolsonaro said that justice could not “intervene in such a thing”. “A judge decides to vaccinate my daughter? You are kidding me,” the president criticized.

On Monday, 27-year-old Bolsonaro said that the deaths of children from the coronavirus do not justify the application of the vaccine in this age group.
