The city council carries out an annual rabies vaccination campaign – disclosure

On Saturday (24/9) the rabies vaccination campaign, promoted by the Municipal Institute for Health Surveillance, Zoonosis and Agricultural Inspection (IVISA-Rio), advances to another additional appointment in two points of the city: Barra de Guarteba and in Ilha da Gigóia, in Barra da Tijuca. In the first, there will be two vaccination centers operating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to vaccinate animals in the area. Addresses are available on the official social networks of IVISA-Rio. On the island of Gigóia, the vaccination will be carried out at a fixed center in the Pet Shop Budapets, on Rua Dr. Sebastião de Aquino, 170. Healthy dogs and cats from three months of age can be vaccinated free of charge.

It is very important to take your pet for a rabies vaccination. Vaccination protects not only his health, but also everyone around him. Rabies is a zoonotic disease, that is, transmitted from animals to humans, and only vaccination with a rabies vaccine is able to protect animals and maintain control of the disease in the municipality – explained the President of IVISA-Rio, Allen Borges.

Rabies has not been reported in dogs and cats in Rio for 27 years and in humans for 36 years. These results are only possible due to the high commitment to vaccination in the annual campaigns and vaccination procedures implemented by IVISA-Rio. The rabies vaccine for dogs and cats must be renewed annually. The institute expects to achieve the goal of vaccinating 470,000 animals last year, the highest number since 2010.

Until November, the campaign takes place in stages, always on Saturdays, during which different groups of neighborhoods will be covered, in order to reach all program areas of the municipality. Upcoming neighborhood groups in the North and West will receive the campaign on October 8 and 22 and November 5.
