25 cases of administrative violations were also opened

The Food and Economic Security Authority – ASAE suspended nine food and beverage establishments in an operation that took place in the municipalities of Lisbon, Oeiras and Cascais and opened two criminal proceedings.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the ASAE revealed that the inspection aimed at verifying compliance with operating rules in the restaurant and beverage sector, with a particular focus on technical, functional and hygiene conditions, took place last weekend.

During the operation, 34 economic operators were searched, and two criminal cases were filed for usurpation of protected designation of origin/protected geographical indication (DOP/IGP) and fraud in relation to goods.

It was decided to suspend the activity of nine food and beverage establishments, due to violation of the general duties of the operating party, which is the lack of public and private hygiene conditions in restaurants.

25 administrative violations cases were also opened, including the ASAE, which highlights the main violations “violations related to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system.” [sigla em inglês para Análise de perigos e pontos críticos de controlo] Lack of public and private hygiene conditions, in addition to breach of the general duties of the operator.

According to the ASAE, violations were also discovered in terms of lack of pest control, lack of mandatory information signs, lack of physical and electronic complaints book, among others.

During the operation, 25 liters of wine worth 100 euros were confiscated, due to the lack of labels on the wine drinks.

ASAE procedures included cooperation with the Lisbon Municipal Police, the PSP, the Tax Authority and the IGAC – General Inspection of Cultural Activities.
