Last year, Apple impressed everyone and everything with the Pro and Max versions of the SoC M1, and later with the Super Ultra version. But apparently, in addition to the worthy successors to these names, the North American giant has a surprise that can change the paradigm of the computing world. We’re talking about the M2 Extreme, a SoC with 125 GPU cores, and 48 CPU cores.

Apple M2 Extreme: Let’s get something more powerful

So, very briefly, the new version of Mac Pro will have the possibility to upgrade to the M2 Extreme, a SoC that is 4 times more powerful than the yet to be released M2 Max.

We’re talking about a processor capable of bringing a 48-core CPU to the table, a GPU with 125 cores, plus a maximum of 256GB of unified RAM. In addition to this Extreme, the M2 Ultra, with slightly lower specifications, but no less surprising, is also expected to be launched.

The way these processors will look should be exactly the same as what Apple used on the M1 Ultra. Namely, the UltraFusion process, where the North American giant took advantage of two M1 Max chips to create a super processor. Here, in this new version, Apple is likely to combine two M2 Ultra chips, giving rise to the M2 Extreme. However, the production process should not be 3 nm, which has problems, but 4 nm.

Also, what do you think of all this? Will Apple become impossible to “catch up” in the world of workstations? Share your opinion with us in the comment box below.
