Koroshi City Council has not yet accepted the transfer of powers delegated from the government to the municipality in the area of health. Mayor Francisco Oliveira met with the Assistant Secretary of Health on May 15 to discuss the issue. The mayor signs the document only after writing the condition of the equipment at Coruche Health Center in the transfer report, the condition of the facilities themselves and the amount to be received on behalf of the workers who become the direct responsibility of the self-authority.
“We want to get the skills and we realize that it is no longer a poisoned gift like Kourosh High School. Because if that is not the case, the next day we will have assistants, workers and employees complaining about the poor conditions of the health center,” the mayor affirmed.
The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system at Coruche Health Center is not working. This past weekend, due to the extreme heat, the emergency service had to switch to an answering service. €400,000 has been earmarked for this health unit from the PRR plan but the council still does not know what the money will be used for, whether it be the purchase of new HVAC systems, works or the purchase of equipment.
It is planned to visit the space with the Deputy Minister of Health to assess the condition of buildings and equipment. “We will work on this issue to be able to sign the transfer report with the government by the end of the year. But it’s almost like extortion. If we don’t get the skills, we can’t apply for a PRR to invest in the health center,” Francisco Oliveira said.
