In the midst of the battle against the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the state of Minas Gerais is sounding the alarm about another disease, whose symptoms are similar to those of dengue fever. We are talking about oroboche fever.

Four cases of fever have already been recorded in the state, one in Gonzaga in Vale do Rio Doce, one in Congonhas, Central Region, and two in Ipatinga, in Vale do Aco. The diagnosis was made after tests ruled out dengue fever. Chikungunya and Zika.

According to the state Department of Health, orobovirus is also an arbovirus, transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Culicoides paraenses, commonly known as maruim or sandflies.

Vector larvae develop in moist places, such as tropical forests, riverbanks, moist soil, holes in trees, organic matter, and litter.

The main symptoms are sudden fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, and muscle and joint pain. But there are some complications that make the disease more serious, such as meningitis or encephalitis, as well as hemorrhagic complications, which are characterized by bleeding gums, nosebleeds, or red spots on the skin.

Currently, there is no vaccine or specific medication for oropathic fever. The recommended treatment is also similar to that of dengue fever, i.e. alleviating the presenting symptoms so that the progression of the cases is positive.

Also according to the Ministry of Health, the prevention measures aim to control disease vectors and are the same measures adopted to combat dengue, Zika and chikungunya.
