Consultant Henley & Partners has selected five hotels that it considers to be the best in Africa. Night rates are very different and range from 378 to 2564 euros. South Africa has two units on this exclusive list.

More than 300,000 millionaires, mostly from France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, regularly visit African countries for holidays and entertainment. That is why, says consulting firm Henley & Partners, the luxury hotel sector is one of the most important in Africa and creates thousands of well-paid jobs for hoteliers, chefs, bouncers and local support staff.

Apart from South Africa, the best holiday destinations for affluent families are Cairo in Egypt, Livingstone in Zambia, Marrakesh in Morocco, Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, Okavango Delta in Botswana, Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt and Etosha National Park in Namibia. The chancellor identified those she considers the five best hotels on the continent.

Located on the waterfront in the Umlhanga area north of Durban, this iconic hotel dates back to the 1950s and back then, it was a popular place for Johannesburg residents to spend their summer holidays. In 2007, the hotel was renovated and transformed by Red Carnation Hotels into what it is today – the epitome of luxury. The cost of one night (2 adults) in May, according to Booking.com, is 378 euros.

Ellerman House Cape town

Ellerman House is a boutique hotel located in Bantry Bay, Cape Town, South Africa, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It has just 13 rooms and residents are treated to privacy and tranquility, making it a hotel much preferred by the rich and famous. According to Booking.com, one night in May for two people costs €670.

Royal Mansour Marrakesh

The Royal Mansour Hotel is an upscale hotel located in the city center of Marrakech, Morocco. It was built in 2010 by order of King Mohammed VI. It contains 53 private riads spread across five hectares of lush Moorish gardens. It has a spa with a unique aviary-style atrium, considered one of the best in the world. The reservation informs that the cost of one night for two is 2564 EUR.


Four Seasons Resort
Sharm El-Shaikh

Located in one of the most sought after areas of the Red Sea, with crystal clear waters and access to a protected marine reserve, Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh is a must-have resort for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. The resort offers world class luxury. A night for two, in May, costs €436, according to Booking.com.

Royal Livingston banks of the Zambezi River

The Royal Livingstone Hotel sits on the banks of the Zambezi River, overlooking Victoria Falls on the Zambian side, with unlimited access for guests. Zebras roam the gardens and spa treatments can be enjoyed in privacy on the banks of the river. The hotel is also known for offering one-of-a-kind river safari experiences. The cost of one night for two adults, according to Booking, is 812 euros.
