YouTube channels are being hacked to promote cryptocurrency scams

On Thursday (23), during a live broadcast of “Resident Evil 4”, the Brazilian gaming channel Flow Games was hacked by cybercriminals who invaded the account to spread a cryptocurrency scam.

The same thing happened with North American technology channels Linus Tech Tips and Linus Media.

While the Flow Games channel was doing a live demo of the game, hackers invaded the account and the transmission had to be interrupted.

Criminals started sending links to a cryptocurrency scam page. The channel’s presenters, PhoenixBR and Bruno Micali, advise against clicking on links that have been submitted. Check out the moment:

In the case of Linus Media Group’s channels, hackers placed content from vehicle manufacturer Tesla, using images of Elon Musk to direct users to a scam link.

Linus Sebastian, owner of Linus Media Group, on Friday (24) posted a video. He explained that the Linus Tech Tips channel, which has more than 15.3 million subscribers, was hacked after someone from the company downloaded an infected file.

Kaspersky’s “Cryptographic Threats 2023” report shows that cybercriminals are always looking for new ways to trick users by implementing phishing tactics and stealing login credentials.

The survey, which focused on US residents, spoke to 2,000 people in October 2022 and revealed that a third of respondents who hold cryptocurrencies have already been victims of fraud involving crypto assets on websites, apps or investment scams.
