The Alentejo Regional Wine Commission (CVRA) introduced the Alentejo Wine Sustainability Program (PSVA) to hundreds of retailers, sommeliers and other wine buyers in the UK this Monday, 18th and Wednesday, 20th September.

The Specialist Importers Trade Tastings (SITT) events were held in London on the 18th and Manchester on the 20th.

“The sustainable production system of the region was taken as an example, and was highly highlighted in the initiatives,” says the CVRA.

The 18th edition of SITT was attended by 12 producers who have obtained the Sustainable Production Certificate, which is considered a seal of authenticity and international recognition. Producers such as Herdate dos Cruzes have made a name for themselves by adhering to environmentally, socially and economically sustainable practices; Tabata de Coelheros; Herdate da Lisboa; Paros wines; Quinta do Paral; Herdade da Malhadinha Nova; Knock; Adega Mayor; Spur; Herdate dos Lagos; Casa Relvas and Casa Clara.

The event was attended by Jono Barroso, coordinator of the PSVA, who together with Julia Harding, one of the most influential and respected personalities in the world of wine, presented “Wines of Alentejo: Unique wines by nature.”

PSVA is an initiative born in 2015 that pioneers the Alentejo region in the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices, the only internationally recognized sustainable production certification mark in Portugal.

PSVA already has more than 640 members, covering 60% of the Alentejo wine region, which corresponds to 13 thousand 464 hectares, and currently 16 producers have obtained the sustainable production label.
