Three rounds to play, five points difference. This is the scenario between the two teams that still have a mathematical chance of reaching the title, Sporting and Benfica, after the 31st round in which the Eagles beat Braga at home and the Lions tied against Porto.
Until the end of the tournament, Sporting, top of the standings with 81 points, will host Portimonense, who are struggling to escape the relegation places, before visiting a now calmer Estoril and a struggling Desportivo de Chavez.
As for Benfica, they visit Famalicao in the next round (which remains quiet in the standings, but have not won in four rounds), then they receive Aruka (who is calm in the rankings and has not been defeated in five matches) and ends the tournament in Vila Do. Koundé, with a visit to Rio Ave, a team still engaged in the struggle for survival.
To become champion mathematically, without relying on Benfica's results, Sporting needs to add five more points. However, the Lions have a significant advantage over Benfica on the difference in goals scored and conceded (14), so they could potentially reach four points.
There is even the possibility of a green and white party in the next round, but only “on the sofa”, after playing Benfica. For Sporting to become champion next weekend, in the third to last round, Sporting could be champion if they win at home to Portimonense, scheduled for Saturday, and Benfica do not win, then, at Famalicao, on Sunday.
