Vodafone has imposed a “special rate of 8.13 cents per minute/text message” effective from 15 September. NOS discontinues the free service at the end of the month. MEO keeps everything as it is for now.

From next month, calls and messages to Ukraine will not be free for Vodafone and NOS customers.

Telecom operator Vodafone confirmed to CNN Portugal that it sent this information on Friday to all customers. “International calls to Ukraine will not be free from September 15. From this day onwards, you can continue to enjoy a special rate of 8.13 cents per minute/text message (without VAT) to Ukraine,” the message read.

Along the same lines, NOS also confirmed to CNN Portugal that it has been providing this service to customers since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, but that it will end on the 31st.

A source from this operator said: “Customers with mobile or fixed packages have free calls to Ukraine, but only until August 31. From that day on, they no longer have free access.” Despite this information, NOS has not yet sent any information to customers regarding the termination of this service for free.

On the contrary, MEO has ensured that there is no fixed date for stopping the free call service to Ukraine, which it has maintained since February 26, an official source of the operator revealed. “Outgoing calls from the MEO mobile network are free to Ukraine for up to 200 minutes per month,” the operator explains.
