Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, signaled on Friday that the EU is on the brink of bankruptcy – the European Commission asked member states, last Tuesday, for new national contributions to the EU budget of €65.8 billion by 2027. Funding priorities such as supporting Ukraine and managing migration and clean technologies.
On social media, the political leader left the question: “The only question everyone here in Brussels is asking: Where did the money go?” Orban is currently attending the two-day EU Leaders Summit in Brussels, and one of the most controversial topics is the question of where the money from the EU budget has gone. “The question arises: How did this situation arise and how did they bring the European Union to the brink of bankruptcy?” Urban asked.
Orban further noted that the EU is demanding more money from member states, even though it is only in the second year of its seven-year budget – which means that money that has been approved to be spent for the next five years has already been spent.

They want to receive 50 billion euros from the Member States to donate to Ukraine, while they cannot even count the money we have given them yet. They want more money from the member states so that they can pay the interest on the EU loans they took earlier. These are loans from which Poland and Hungary have not yet received a single cent, ”Orban accused.
“The Hungarian position is clear,” he stressed. “First, we want to know the huge amount of money that we have provided so far and that has been spent on it. Then we want to know who is responsible for the fact that the European Union is on the brink of bankruptcy.”

In an interview with Hungarian State Radio, on the sidelines of the European Council, in Brussels, Viktor Orbán kept the message straight.
“One thing is certain: we Hungarians will not give Ukraine more money until they say where almost 70 billion euros of the previous money went,” he said. “And we find it absolutely absurd and absurd that we should contribute more money to finance the debt-servicing costs of a loan from which we have not yet received the funds to which we are entitled,” he added.
