The creation of structure is the result of continuous reorganization in the SNS. Almada-Seixal (ULSAS) is one of 31 new units created in January 2024.

As of Monday, January 1, the municipalities of Almada and Seixal will have a Local Health Unit (ULS), resulting from the merger of the García de Orta Hospital and the Almada-Seixal Health Center Group.

The new ULS will be the entity responsible for managing primary care units, hospitals and long-term care in the territory. This is a new organizational model that aims to ensure greater integration of healthcare in a geographical area, including hospital structures, primary healthcare, local authorities and the community. This process is part of the ongoing reorganization of the National Health System (SNS).

Described by Fernando Araujo, chief executive of the National Health Service, as “the great reform of the NHS”, this new provision aims to achieve gains in efficiency and quality in healthcare provision. “We are implementing a reform that will cover the entire country and will profoundly change, from a regulatory point of view, in health care.” described The person responsible last August.

The Almada Seixal Local Health Unit (ULSAS) is one of 31 new units created in January 2024, which join the eight already existing units, making a total of 39 units across the country.

“We are convinced that the integration of care will be strengthened by the creation of the ULS, providing health care most suited to the real needs of our population and giving greater centrality to the user,” highlighted in turn, Teresa Machado Luciano, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hospital Garcia de Orta (HGO).

“ULSAS will be comprehensive, integrated, transparent and humane and will provide comprehensive, integrated, differentiated and increasingly personalized responses,” he stressed. HGO official website.
