A massive disinformation operation has been waged for the Narendra Modi government in India in the heart of Europe to attack New Delhi’s favorite targets, including Pakistan and China, defend Hindu nationalism using fake news and fake media, invented journalists, experts and think tanks backed by opaque structures.
Behind this media campaign is an Indian economic group, Srivastava Group, and India’s largest news agency, Asian News International, or ANI, which acts as a huge distributor of fake news, which is then picked up by many other news websites. . One of the most famous examples is the case of Philippe Lejeune, an investigative journalist who did not exist but published 58 articles in two fake news outlets, EU Today and EU Political Report, and was quoted by ANI in 2021.
