Joao Pinheiro will be the referee for Sunday’s Lisbon derby between Sporting and Benfica.
The refereeing board of the FPF at the end of Wednesday morning revealed the refereeing teams appointed for all matches of the 33rd and penultimate round of the I Liga, making it known that the 35-year-old referee from AF Braga would be at that time. Estádio José Alvalade, from 6 p.m., accompanied by Bruno Jesus and Luciano Maia (assistant referees) and Vitor Ferreira (fourth official). Hugo Miguel will be in charge of the VAR and will be assisted by Pedro Felisberto.
This season, João Pinheiro has managed four matches for the Eagles. He had more victories over Boavista and Porto, but he was also in defeats against SC Braga and Chaves. As for Sporting, Joao Pinheiro has coached three games so far this season, including the defeat in the League Cup final, against FC Porto, with many complaints from the greens and whites to the arbitration.
It will be the first Lisbon derby managed by Joao Pinheiro in his career.
Before that, on Saturday, will be the visit of FC Porto to Famalecao Fabio Verissimo, whose assistants will be Pedro Martins and Hugo Marquez. Angoni Rodriguez will be the fourth official, with Vasco Santos as the VAR, assisted by Angelo Carneiro.
This will be the Dragons’ fourth match this season under the supervision of a referee from Leiria, as the Blue and White have won the previous three.
