On Monday, the British government said it had imposed new sanctions, including against Russia’s Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov, in connection with what it described as Moscow’s forced deportation of Ukrainian children.

Britain imposed 14 new designations of sanctions in response to Russia’s “attempts to destroy Ukraine’s national identity”, 11 of which it said were related to the forced resettlement of children. They will be subject to an asset freeze and travel ban.

“In their appalling program of forcible deportation of children and the hate-filled propaganda disseminated by their followers, we see the true intent of [do presidente russo, Vladimir] “Putin – to wipe Ukraine off the map,” British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said in a statement.

“Today’s sanctions hold those who support the Putin regime accountable, including those who want to see Ukraine destroyed, its national identity dissolved, and its future erased.”

The EU sanctions package last month included those that the bloc said were responsible for “forcible transfers and deportations of Ukrainian children and those responsible for plundering Ukraine’s cultural heritage”.

The UK says many children have been sent to re-education camps, where they “receive a Russian-focused academic, cultural, patriotic and military education”.

Earlier this month, Russia said it had transferred about 700,000 children from conflict zones in Ukraine to Russian territory for their protection.
