This weekend’s Premier League and English Football League matches are expected to see breaks as England face another period of sweltering summer temperatures.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued an amber extreme heat alert that went into effect Thursday and covers the rest of this week. It covers most of the southern half of England as well as parts of eastern Wales.
It is understood that any Premier League or Premier League match where the temperature is expected to reach at least 30°C should feature a break in the middle of each half to allow players, coaches and officials to rehydrate and cool off.
Temperatures in the area covered by the thermal alert are expected to reach 30 degrees.
A break was marked for Sunday’s Premier League match between West Ham and Manchester City, while Carabao Cup first-round matches earlier this week – including Coventry against Bristol City – also saw breaks.
