The changes bring the car in line with Renault’s new look, with an enlarged checkerboard grille, new lighting signature, sharp rear end and the brand’s new simplified 2D logo. At the rear, it gets redesigned brake lights and a more angular bumper.

Despite its physically larger appearance, it shares the same dimensions as the new Clio car – Renault was keen to report.

Inside, it remains largely unchanged, with the addition of a new 10-inch (7-inch on lesser trims) borderless instrument display. Top trims get a 9.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The increase in material quality comes as part of Renault’s recently pledged drive for profitability, integrating soft-touch materials around the dashboard and doors. However, the car is no longer offered with leather trim – a nod to sustainability – and sustainable fabrics are used instead. Option packages are also easily streamlined.

The new Esprit Alpine trim is offered for the first time on the Renault Astral SUV, with custom badges, colors and 17-inch alloys. Pricing for this specification has yet to be announced, but is expected to be aimed at buyers of the Audi A1 Sportback and Mini Cooper 5dr.
