The Covid-19 infection is associated with increased cardiovascular problems and mortality. Several studies have already confirmed this. A recent survey with data from Biobank in the UK, and published in the Journal of the Heart, confirms this once again.

Research indicates that the most serious cases are patients who need to be hospitalized for a longer period. The risk was found to be higher in the first 30 days after infection.

The study collected data from more than 53,000 patients. A portion of them contracted Covid-19 between March 2020 and the same month the following year. Of the cases, nearly 3,000 patients required hospitalization.

The participants were then followed up to see if they had any cardiovascular problems, such as heart failure, stroke or stroke. Compared with those who did not become infected, Covid-19 patients were 10 times more likely to have a heart attack and 17 times more likely to have a stroke.

“This risk is almost entirely attributable to those who required hospitalization and is highest in the initial period, in the first 30 days after infection,” the study officials explained.
