The work developed by the Strategic Information Center for Sanitary Surveillance of Santa Catarina (CIEVS) of the Epidemiological Surveillance Directorate (DIVE/SC) entitled “Simulation of the training of epidemiological surveillance warning teams and the CIEVS network for the State of SC: experience report” was the champion of the competitive exhibition of the 17th edition of the exhibition National Center for Successful Experiences in Epidemiology, Prevention and Control – ExpoEpi, from the Ministry of Health.

In addition to the SC, the “Preparing, Surveillance and Response to Public Health Emergencies” exhibition also included presentations of experiences from the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.

The aim of the work was to describe the simulation experience for training and updating the teams working in the epidemiological surveillance surveillance of the health districts and the CIEVS network in Santa Catarina, in order to contribute to the development of continuous training strategies to act in a timely and qualified manner in surveillance, monitoring, detection, verification, strategic communication and response to diseases and events that Public health concerns. The simulation process was supported by the Pan American Health Organization through a technical cooperation agreement.

This year, the national event reached a historic milestone by receiving more than 1,800 submissions. “The government’s epidemiological surveillance works daily, in various areas such as public health emergencies, zoonotic diseases, vaccination, among others, and always strives to preserve the health of the population of Santa Catarina. Focusing on risks to the health of consumers, the work methodology consisted of four phases ranging from clarifying the critical control points observed in the stages of the water supply system (SAA), to using a risk matrix to assess and calculate the impact on the health of the consuming population. The script obtained linked data from the Information System for Monitoring Water Quality for Human Consumption (SISAGUA) with results performed in person at SAA, and served as the basis for the development of the digital inspection system. This measure also makes available to health authorities a new tool, which also enables them to use the inspection text in an educational way.

“The Health Surveillance Directorate acts as an important area of public health, establishing regulations aimed at meeting the needs of the population, creating barriers to protecting life. Moreover, it qualifies the work of technical teams through training, instruments and tools such as those described in this award-winning work, which makes us very proud and highlights the commitment and value of each of the professionals who make up our team,” highlights Lucilia Scaramosa Ribas Krejk. , Director, DIVS/SC.
