The Municipal Health Administration (Semsa) will visit more than 25,000 properties in Manaus to obtain data on infection with Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that transmits dengue fever. From January to October, the capital recorded 495 cases of the disease.
The SMSA survey is part of the second Standard Rapid Survey of Aedes aegypti (LIRAa) for the year 2023. According to the secretariat, the visits began on Monday (6) and will continue until the 22nd of this month.
In total, 25,769 properties selected through sampling will be visited, in 63 neighborhoods in Manaus.
The LIRAa conference, which is held twice a year, makes it possible to determine the level of risk in Manaus and in each neighborhood for diseases transmitted by Aedes, which can be low, medium or high.
According to SMSA, from January to October this year, the capital recorded 495 confirmed cases of dengue fever. Compared to last year, Manaus suffered a 52% decrease in the number of cases.
In addition to dengue fever, Manaus this year recorded 21 confirmed cases of other diseases transmitted by the Zika virus mosquito, and 36 confirmed cases of chikungunya.
