The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) revealed today that British citizens registered in Madeira and the Azores will be notified to collect biometric data for their new residence card.

Notification of collection scheduling begins today and service begins Monday, February 21.

The measure is being implemented under the UK’s withdrawal agreement from the European Union, according to a statement from the SEF, which also informs that British citizens who have not yet registered on the Brexit portal “should do so as soon as possible” through the https://brexit site. .sef.pt/

As for Britons who are already registered, the SEF has made it clear that these nationals will receive notification by email in the chronological order in which they submitted their documents.

For Britons residing in mainland Portugal and registered on the Brexit portal, the SEF ensures that they do not need to contact its services and that they will be contacted after the official start of this phase.

Britons residing in the Autonomous Communities will be assisted in the SEF Service Office at Citizen’s Shop in Funchal (Madeira) and in entity delegations in Angra do Heroísmo and Ponta Delgada (Azores), where, in addition to providing their data for the new. card, they can also update it.

“The certificate containing the QR code, which can be downloaded from the portal, remains an official document of residence in Portugal under the Withdrawal Agreement and is valid until the issuance of the new card. Documents for current residence in the European Union for travel purposes also continue to be accepted, as long as they are within their validity period, until A new residence card is issued.
