On August 22, the University of Embrapa Pecuária held its 12th Seminar on Scientific Initiation (CI) and Technological Initiation (ITI) with a presentation of research conducted by students over a year. At this mixed event, more than 20 works of colleagues were presented under the guidance of researchers from the Embrapa Unit, located in Paje (Republika Srpska). In this edition, the papers are divided into two large groups: food science and technology, animal health and rural management; Pasture and fodder. Scholarships are awarded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and by the Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Fapergs). According to Embrapa Pecuária Sul researcher and coordinator of the Internal Committee for Scientific and Technological Scholarships, Ana Cristina Mazzucato, the program aims to introduce undergraduates to the scientific world and encourage the training of future researchers. The researcher highlights that “the granted grants expand the opportunities of these students, bring them closer to technological innovation processes in the agricultural sector, and contribute to their training and generation of knowledge and new technologies applied in this field.” For students, the scholarships are an opportunity to follow how applied scientific research is developing, and the symposium is a good time to present the results of a year’s work. “The first seminar that we never forget, and working this year at Embrapa has added a lot of knowledge to me and brought me closer to a field I already had a great appreciation for, which is forage farming.” Being involved in an experience that a company like Embrapa is doing, is without a doubt a unique and rewarding moment”, describes Samira Rodriguez, one of the fellows who participated in the symposium. This year’s edition of the symposium featured two special guests, fellowship recipient Andrea Plutzky Reis a former student and now a technician from the Brazilian Brangos Society, and a former PampaPlus Technician and intern, Zilah Cheuiche. Both shared their experiences and career paths, noting the importance of their internships, under the guidance of the researcher at Universidad Imbraba Becuaria Sul Fernando Flores Cardoso, and co-supervised by the researcher Marcus Yoko.
