On March 2, the municipality of São Bras de Alportel signed a cooperation protocol with the Algarve Oncology Association (AOA), strengthening cooperation between both entities in order to increase awareness of prevention, early diagnosis of oncological diseases and support patients with cancer.
Both entities already have a long cooperative relationship that has now been formalized and strengthened with the extension of the municipality’s support to the association, both in terms of publicity campaigns, examinations and other association initiatives.
As a result of this collaborative work, work is underway on the project “Heart Pads and Temporary Prosthetics – A Project in Support of Cancer Patients”, which has been joined by the municipality of São Bras de Alportel with the voluntary cooperation of craftsmen and producers that are part of Casa Is Artesão de Sao Bras de Alportel.
In February, the municipality supported the implementation of Marcha-Corrida Mov.ON with the publication of the initiative and the provision of local transportation for people from São Paulo who participated in this cross-border event held in Castro Marim. The municipality will act in the same way with regard to the Marathon, which is held annually in October.
With the aim of raising awareness and informing the population of the problem of oncology, both entities will cooperate in making various communication materials available to the community, such as the “Summer Without Escaldão” action focused on the prevention of skin cancers and which will have the cooperation of youth from São Paulo, coordinated by Espaço Jovem, which will stimulate activities in Municipal swimming pool complex.
Actions are also planned as part of the Skin Lesion Campaign, COPD screening, and other events where work in this area is health promotion.
The municipality of São Bras de Alportel has also committed to hosting some of the association’s services and initiatives, while providing the necessary facilities and logistics to be as efficient as possible with the people of São Bras.
Realizing that the mission of the City Council in the development and well-being of the community also includes the promotion of health, the municipality intends to encourage the participation of citizens in the various initiatives promoted by Associação Oncológica do Algarve and increasingly promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles. The Ambition is designed in a broad way and with a strategy that includes, for example: maintenance and adaptation of sports equipment in the municipality, support for municipal sports federations and support for school sports and competitions aimed at the community.
