Residents of Arcozelo, Ponte de Lima, in protest, planted cabbage on the pier of Via São Gonçalo, on National Route 202, which had to be repaired “seven months” after Águas do Alto Minho (AdAM) carried out the works there. The company promises that the paving will be done next week, weather permitting.

Fed up with the condition of the sidewalk that takes pedestrians along Via de São Gonçalo, to follow the road, residents decided to plant cabbage there, last weekend, as a way to draw attention to the problem and demand an urgent solution.

“Because there is no land, we planted cabbage there at Christmas,” jokes one of the affected residents, who preferred to remain anonymous.

In contact with O MINHO, the president of Arcozelo Junta, Acácio Fernandes, confirmed that he was aware of the case: “The residents have contacted me several times and I will not say that they are not right, because they are, it is just that this is a work of AdAM which is divided into two phases: one of which was the development of The new tube and the second were delivered, three weeks earlier, to the same company that carried out the first phase of work, Boaventura and Boaventura, of Barrosillas. [Viana do Castelo]”.

The mayor adds that the contractor explained to him that he was looking for employees – a task that was made difficult by the lack of manpower in the sector – to start the second phase of work. Acácio Fernandes also asserts that he has already provided all this information to the residents.

Confronted by O MINHO, Adam added that “the paving will take place next week, if the weather conditions are not as severe as seen during this week and before, as the signaling plan has already been approved by Infraestruturas de Portugal”.
