So what does a highly rally-conscious motorsport engineering company want from the racetrack?

“Seventy percent of the rallies our cars compete in now are on tarmac,” explains Wilson. “We’ve also built race cars over the years, so it’s a really useful thing.

But the new track isn’t just for the M-Sport. Together with M-Sport’s technical facilities, it is a key commercial asset for vehicle engineering and development and events, providing the wider automotive and motorsport industries.

More than a decade in planning and production, part of a project that includes a substantial paddock development that includes world-class workshops and manufacturing facilities just meters from the circuit barrier. Some of them will be M-Sport’s own production facilities, but others are available for anyone to use.

It’s a ‘come and let’s help build your next supercar’ – and once you’re done building it, M-Sport can build yours for you too.

“The seed of all this was planted a long time ago,” says Wilson, before we go in any direction. “It was 1990, and Alex Fiorio and I were driving rally cars for Ford. We finished scouting for Mt. [Carlo Rally] At Christmas time that year he spent a few days in Italy with Alex and his family. During our stay, Alex’s father, Cesare, was the sporting director of the Ferrari Formula 1 team, so we went to Ferrari and I took a ride. [Ferrari] F40 with a test drive on the test track in Fiorano.
