Vaccines will be available to the public in 13 health units in different parts of the city next Monday afternoon (3).

According to the Immunization Department of the Ministry of Health, influenza vaccine doses have been donated to RJ State by the Acre government and 2,730 doses will be transported to Petrópolis by RJ State Vaccine Distribution Center.

The flu vaccine will be available in UBSs Morin, Alto Independência, Quitandinha, Mosela, Retiro, Itamarati, Itaipava, Araras and Pedro do Rio; In Alto da Serra and Posse PSFs, as well as the Alcides Carneiro Hospital (HAC) and Professor Manoel José Ferreira’s Health Centre.

Mayor Robbins Bombembo informed that he is charging the state health department to send more doses to the city, which has already recorded an increase in demand for care of people with flu-like symptoms in health facilities.

The mayor said: “The donated vaccines are already out of stock in health facilities and we need more doses to ensure that the population is immunized at this time of increasing prevalence of the influenza virus.”

The Minister of Health, Marcos Corvelo, stressed the importance of people who have not yet been vaccinated to turn to health facilities as soon as doses are available.

He also stressed that it is essential that the population maintain the same precautions that have been adopted against COVID-19 and that they also avoid contamination with other viruses such as influenza.
“People should continue to use masks and hand hygiene, as well as avoid crowding,” says the health minister.

The influenza vaccination campaign took place between April and July of this year, but there was an increase in demand in November and December due to the outbreak of the virus in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

In Petropolis, 126,066 residents received a flu vaccine this year.

In all, 86,510 people from the campaign’s target audience have been vaccinated so far, and another 39,522 people have sought access to health facilities since the beginning of July, when vaccination was available to the entire population.
