João Quiroz e Melo, a cardiothoracic surgeon and pioneer of heart transplantation in Portugal, is the first signatory of the statement released on Wednesday, which says that the AD coalition's electoral platform “is the best way to correct the serious situation in the SNS” and deliver truly comprehensive health care to the entire population.
Regarding Renacensa, the specialist who has worked for 38 years in social networks says that the current problems of social networks cannot be solved, “with recipes dating back 50 years” that are “getting worse,” he warned.
To reverse this situation, these 110 figures believe that the SNS must be restructured and must work alongside the remaining providers, both social and private, in a national health system.
João Quiroz e Melo believes that “using existing structures to treat the Portuguese is the cheapest way to do this” and asserts that “public-private partnerships in hospitals have been beneficial to the health and money of the Portuguese, which is what pays.”
The surgeon says, “It is important to be realistic and abandon the excessive ideology with which we have tried to run the National Health Service in recent years.”
Among the figures who signed this statement, which states that “the legislative elections are a privileged opportunity to end the cycle of mediocrity and decline in the National Socialist Party,” are Alexandre Valentim Lourenço, Director of the Gynecology Service at Santa Maria Hospital; and Rui Angus, Director of the Pediatric Cardiology Service at Centro Hospital de Lisboa Oeste.
Helder Monteiro, Service Director, CHLO; Miguel Mendes, President of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology; Antunes, Director of the Responsibility Center for Cardiac Surgery at the University Hospitals of Coimbra; Miguel Souza Ova, cardiothoracic surgeon and director of services at Lisboa Hospital Center Oeste, are other signatories of the statement.
